According to apa.org, 1.4 million children in the U.S. between the ages of 8 and 18 provide care for an older adult or sibling, including around 400,000 children aged 8 to 11. These children often grow up to be adults who have been developmentally impacted by their caregiving roles, often compromising their personal development.

This full-day intensive retreat is for Black women who:

  • Have felt physically and emotionally responsible for a parent or sibling since a very young age

  • Now find themselves in the role of rescuer or enabler in relationships

  • Can't help but take on the emotional burdens of others

  • Neglect their own needs and hide parts of themselves from others

  • Are intentional caregivers (doctors, nurses, therapists/counselors)  struggling with compassion fatigue

Led by experienced licensed therapist and private practice owner Montina Myers-Galloway, creator of The Responsible One Newsletter©, this retreat offers a transformative journey of self-discovery. Learn powerful tools to understand yourself better and show up more authentically in the world.

During this full-day intensive retreat, you will:

  • Learn about the impact of parentification and its effects on mental health. Learn how to identify and put a stop to unhealthy caregiving behaviors.

  • Strategies to cope with the complexities of parentification and being Black, and handle situations you can't put into words.

  • Gain mindfulness skills, communication skills, stress relief methods, and other holistic healing practices.

  • Acquire tools to cope with both standard grief and ambiguous grief (loss with no closure).

  • Understand the impact of body image issues.

  • Explore the balance between overcompensating and acceptance. Learn ways to prioritize yourself and steps to escape a caregiving lifestyle.

Included in the cost of the retreat:

  • Breakfast, lunch and snacks

  • Workbook + Healing Kit

  • A beautiful serene lakeside venue

  • Expert-led workshops and guidance

  • Connection opportunities with other participants

Drawing from over 20+  years of industry experience, Montina and her team of facilitators will safely guide participants through recognizing and understanding the detrimental impact of being both an intentional and an unintentional caregiver.

The retreat will go deeper into our sense of self in relation to the other important connections in our lives.  Join us for a transformative learning experience that not only explores but provides practical skills to change the way you relate to yourself and ultimately how you relate to others. Your journey towards true confidence begins here.
