About Myers-Galloway Counseling | Black Therapist Charlotte, NC
Empowering Black Women through Therapy
Our Philosophy
Every Black woman should invest in herself.
We believe every Black woman deserves the space, tools, and support to invest in her healing — and reclaim the parts of herself that were buried under responsibility.
At Myers-Galloway Counseling, therapy isn’t just about coping. It’s about unlearning survival patterns, learning to prioritize yourself, and building a life that honors who you are — not just who you’ve had to be.
Who We Help
We specialize in supporting Black women who were forced to grow up too fast. If you were the one who always had to “hold it together,” you may have experienced:
Emotional or physical caregiving for a parent or sibling
Being the peacekeeper in a home with instability, addiction, or violence
Feeling like your needs didn’t matter — only your performance did
Growing up in a single-parent household with adult-level expectations
These early patterns often lead to obsessive anxiety, high-functioning depression, and challenges like:
Struggling to find healthy, mutual relationships
Feeling unseen or undervalued at work or at home
Suppressing your voice to keep the peace
Overthinking, emotional shutdowns, and self-neglect disguised as “strength”
What Healing Looks Like Here
Through culturally attuned, goal-driven therapy, we help you:
✔️ Reconnect with your true self — beyond roles and responsibilities
✔️ Set boundaries without guilt or shutdown
✔️ Break generational patterns and stop parenting your parents
✔️ Feel safe expressing emotion, rest, and softness
✔️ Shift from survival mode to self-leadership and peace
Why Our Work Matters
We are licensed mental health professionals serving the Black community of Charlotte, NC with compassion and cultural competence. Our practice exists for Black women who’ve spent years in survival mode — holding everyone else together while feeling emotionally invisible.
Over 5.4 million children in the U.S. have had to care for a parent or sibling — and many grow up without ever receiving the support they needed.
For Black women, this early caregiving often becomes a lifelong pattern of emotional suppression, over-responsibility, and invisible burnout — reinforced by the pressure to be “strong” at all times.
You’ve carried enough. If you’re reading this, it’s time to put yourself first — and we’re ready when you are.
